Let’s Reflect!

To begin with, my topic of choice was realistic drawing, this was a concept of open- mindedness, and to show the creativity of drawing. Realistic drawing or also referred to as realism, in the arts is the attempt to represent a truthful subject. This can be a depicted scene or objects as seen in the real world as they are experienced or seen. I choose this topic because, it is one one of my biggest interest, I have a passion for drawing but not necessarily in a realistic manner. I tend to draw fictional scenes or things that come up in my mind. I’ve always wanted to draw realistically like big artists, and I struggled with that, so I decided to learn about the basics that you need to know for this particular style of art. Furthermore, most realistic drawings have messages behind them. Although, I forgot to mention this in my presentation, realism in art is visually stunning, but then can also portray important messages. The connotation of the drawing can question important issues going on in the world, or just little things that people should know about. During this project, I learned about the common strengths and weakness of realistic artist, as well as the tips and tricks that are needed to make sure that the drawing is as real as possible; this includes: shading, perspective, outlining, constantly looking as your model (if you are drawing an object), and practicing. Finally, I learned that realistic drawing is most commonly done in graphite pencil, however, other artists use charcoal, and colored pencils. The two last tools mentioned make the depiction more bold and vivid. This project did not really make me grow as a person, but it made me more open-minded about my style drawing. Now, I like to try drawing realistic objects that I find around my house. I would say that I did not grow drastically, however, this project allowed me to try out new things and not to always stick with one concept and style of drawing. The particular ideas that i learned about would not have a significant influence or impact on the world. Still, as I previously stated, some drawing have messages behind them, therefore, one can say that it can impact a community. One’s art can influence  a whole generation and illuminated people on society and alternative concerns, for instance. For my next Genius Hour, I want it to impact the world in such a way that it will be appreciated and not a “one time thing”. Meaning, an organization or maybe just helping out an organization daily to better their needs.

It was a dry, hot, summer evening, in Arizona. Not to mention, it was Friday the 13th. Maddie, 15, and her old sister, 23, are on a road trip to their grandmother’s house. It was a pretty scary evening because a lot of paranormal activity was happening in their household and they wanted to get out of the place. On the road, there was just one single car, it was their’s. It was freaky, one road, one car, and a field of dead grass. The two were in their car, jamming out to their music, then all of a sudden a clown, small, bloody with a deformed faces lies in front of them, with a chainsaw. Each second, approaching the vehicle.

How does technology help you problem solve?

How can technology help you solve real life situations in today’s world? As we learned in class there are many different way to problem solve using something that we are all very familiar with, technology. Technology is most time associated with internet, phones, laptops, and other devices. But tech is also a great tool to solve problems and be a problem solve.

One way to solve a problem in you life is by creating a video. This can be a way to express your ideas in a creative yet positive way. If you are having a problem at school or you have a problem with someone in your life. Instead of going at them physically, you can simply use technology and create a video telling them that there is a slight barrier between the two of you and calming address the situation. Video creating, is not only used when there is a problem between you and someone, but if there is a worldwide issue taking place you can send publish a video expressing your opinion and/ or telling ways to help the issue be resolve if it is a minor one.

Another way that technology can be used to problem solve is blogging, that is kind of the same concept as video creation. This is another way to expresses your ideas and share ideas about raising awareness and helping solve problems. It helps connect with the outside world and get information as well as perspective from other people.

Finally, Digital Citizen is a huge part of solving problem in the educational world as well as when you on the web in general. We learned about plagiarism, digital, footprints, etc. This help solve problem when taking someone else ideas or words. This is plagiarism technology taught us that you should paraphrase one’s words instead. This really helps when you are researching.

All in all, technology helps problem solve in a way that you can conveys your ideas and your perspective to others.

Ball is Life!

For the past 6 years basketball has been my life. I’ve been playing since I was five years-old and made the team at my basketball club in the States. Coming into ISD I learned about a mostly sports competition called WAISAL, it stand for West African International Schools Activities League. Sadly being in middle schools there no such thing as basketball WAISAL. Since the high schoolers have they’re season before us my friends and I would always go out and watch there practices and game to support the team (and my sister). After realizing that our season was coming soon, my best friend, Jennifer, and I decided to have a middle school pre- season for girls, however, we ran in to issues. There was not enough coach to mentor us, because they all busy coaching the high schooler. After that minor issue Mr. 4G allowed the 8th grade girls to practice with the varsity team. This allowed us to experience how playing with high schoolers would, knowing that that with be us in a couple of month. WAISAL is approaching and coach 4G broke the news to Jennifer, Amanda and I. He told us that Burkina Faso would love to join HS WAISAL basketball, but the only had four player and they needed extra people, the head of the sports administration at ISD allowed a couple of 8th graders to play with them. This would be, as previously stated, an experience to play with high schoolers. This impacted my life in ways it let me know that even tho I’m just a middle schooler I can still play at a high school level. It also let me know to be focused when playing. As said in the Disney movie High School Musical “Get your head in the game”.

Thank you Mr. 4G for this opportunity!

Don’t ever give up!

Conqueror by Empire Cast

Life is like a big merry-go-round,
You’re up and then down,
Going in circles trying to get to where you are.
Everybody’s been counting you out,
But where are they now?
Sitting in the same old place,
Just faces in the crowd.
We all make mistakes,
You might fall on your face,
But you gotta get up!

[Chorus:]
I’d rather stand tall
Than live on my knees,
‘Cause I am a conqueror,
And I won’t accept defeat!
Try telling me no,
One thing about me
Is I am a conqueror,
I am a conqueror!
Ooh oh

Got a vision that no one else sees,
Lot of dirty work, roll up your sleeves,
Remember there’s a war out there,
So come prepared to fight!
You never know where the road leads you,
Not everyone’s gonna believe you,
And even though they’re wrong, don’t prove them right.

[Chorus:]
I’d rather stand tall (tall)
Than live on my knees (can’t live on my knees)
‘Cause I am a conqueror
And I won’t accept defeat!
Try telling me no (no)
One thing about me (one thing about me)
Is I am a conqueror,
I am a conqueror!
Ooh oh (Ooh oh)
I am a conqueror!

We all make mistakes,
You might fall on your face,
But you gotta get up!
We all make mistakes,
You might fall on your face,
Don’t ever give up!

[Chorus:]
I’d rather stand tall (oooh)
Than live on my knees (can’t live on my knees)
‘Cause I am a conqueror (I am a conqueror)
And I won’t accept defeat! (And I won’t accept defeat)
Try telling me no (try telling me no)
One thing about me (one thing about me)
Is I am a conqueror (is I am a conqueror)
I am a conqueror!
Ooh oh (Ooh oh)
I am a conqueror!

We all make mistakes,
You might fall on your face,
But I am a conqueror! (oh ooh)
